Other Versions of Zorro

Another question that frequently comes up is when people wonder why most of the foreign Zorro movies are not covered on the Zorro: The Legend Through the Years site. I have never seen most of those movies. They are not readily available in the United States. Even when they come up for sale on the internet, it can be hard to find English language versions.

I have seen a few of them, but I did not like them enough to want to put a page together for any of them.

Even though it doesn't say so, the purpose of the Zorro: The Legend Through the Years site is to cover versions of Zorro that were released in the United States. Plain and simple, this is why the foreign films are missing. The Alain Delon film has been readily available in the United States, and this is why it is covered.

I have been looking looking at Zorro 1990 on youtube and comparing it with my favourite Queen of Swords which in its uncut version is more adult. Valentine Pelka, an Englishman, is the main villian and he was in one episode of Zorro 1990. Also I am sure Tordardo and The Queens horse Chico are wearing the same harness with the heart frontspiece. As for DVD amazon.fr sell The DVD but it is only in French. I was lucky with QoS they sold it with an english soundtrack, multiregion and in widescreen. I have written a lot of the wiki entery and TV IV entry and will add the bit about the horses.

Sorry I spelt Toronado wrong but thr bridle and Harness are identical. Compare your picture of Toronado with Anthony de Longis website picture of Chico. Each series was filmed one in Madrid and the other in Almeria. Looked at IMDB to see if someone worked on both series to no avail. Richard Cruz who was the horse stunt man and is well known in Spain may well have known where it was. I did try to copy your Toronado picture to put along side Chico on the QoS website but could not do it.
I would appreciate a reply

I know that Queen of Swords used the same exterior set in Spain that the New World Zorro used. I do not know whether any of the same crew worked on Queen of Swords, but there are certainly similarities as you have pointed out. It is very interesting.

Thanks for answering. QoS was filmed at The Texas Hollywood Studios, Tabanas, Southern Spain which from its time as the home of spaghetti westerns has been a tourist attraction and working studio. As your site said, Zorro was filmed just outside Madrid. The church's are completely different.

I have posted to youtube a clip featuring Toronado and Chico. The bridle and breastplate are identical. What do you think?

Enter 'Zorro toronado' in youtube search box.

I have replaced the youtube clip with a better example of Toronado.
Maybe another reason QoS got into trouble with Zorro Inc, any comments?

Delving further into youtube and the identical bridle and breastplate turns up in the Alain Delon Zorro 1975. All these have been filmed in Europe.

You are right about how similar/identical the bridle and breastplate are in the Alain Delon version.
